12:11 pm - American Idol 3/21/12 Top 10 and Billy Joel Week!
First of all, a quick recap of what happened in the weeks I didn't post about: Top 13: Girls sang songs by the late Whitney Houston (RIP) and guys sang songs by Stevie Wonder. Bottom 3 Girls were Elise, Erika, and Shannon. Bottom 3 Guys were Joshua, Jermaine, and Jeremy. Elise and Jeremy were the bottom guy and girl and the judges saved Elise. Therefore Jeremy was eliminated. Top 11: There was no Top 12 because Jermaine was disqualified due to a hidden criminal record :(. Contestants sang songs from the year they were born. Once again, Elise, Erika, and Shannon were in the Bottom 3 (WTF America?). Shannon was eliminated.
So, on with tonight:
Andre: "Only the Good Die Young" I have to say this was pretty good for someone who sings in a falsetto voice like he does sometimes. This was a pretty entertaining performance and I enjoyed it. Rating: 7.5 out of 10
Erika: "New York State of Mind" First of all, I can't believe why the judges and America don't like her. She has an incredible voice. OMG THEY CUT HER HAIR AND DYED IT BLACK. I think it's pretty cool and different. Anyway, she put on an awesome performance. Rating: 8.4 out of 10
Joshua: "She's Got a Way" Joshua did a really good job last week and really did a justice this week. I love his voice and he really made a good connection to the song. Rating: 8.8 out of 10
Skylar: "Shameless" She definitely added "twang" to this song, and it payed off. I haven't heard of a lot of these songs, but I think that this one probably would sound better as a country song anyway. Rating: 8.0 out of 10
Elise: "Vienna" The judges weren't happy about her being in the Bottom 3, but I guess I'm just one of those people who doesn't get her. She just doesn't seem that great to me and I think a raspy voice sounds better on a guy than a girl. Rating: 7.1 out of 10
Phillip: "Movin' Out" As much as I like Phillip, this performance didn't really do anything for me. I just found it to be kind of boring. I think he's getting a lot of hype because the girls love him. Rating: 6.5 out of 10
Hollie: "Honesty" America, an angel has descended upon us and her name is Hollie Cavanagh. It was absolutely incredible. Rating: 9 out of 10
Heejun: "My Life" Holy crap. I thought that he messed up in the beginning, then he came out with a lot of energy. However, he doesn't have the best singing voice. Rating: 7.4 out of 10
Jessica: "Everybody's Got a Dream" Remember how I said that Hollie was like an angel. Well... Jessica was a goddess. 'Nuff said. Rating: 9.5 out of 10
Colton: "Piano Man" A very entrancing performance. I couldn't take my eyes off the TV screen. Rating: 9.6 out of 10
Who I want in the Bottom 3: Heejun, Elise, Phillip People who I'm indifferent about: Skylar, Andre People I dont want in the Bottom 3: Joshua, Erika If these people are in the Bottom 3, something's gone wrong: Colton, Jessica, Hollie Current Mood: hot

09:55 pm - American Idol: 2/15/12
Group Night!... Again. Geez, this is my first full season of watching American Idol, so I didn't know this went on for so long. 185 contestants are left and they've got to get down to 24 for the semi finals. Wow, sucks to be them. A lot of people don't seem to be prepared and they're doing last minute practices. The Betties: What the hell was that? Rating: 4/10 Who Made It: Jennifer & Carrie Groove Sauce: I like it, it's really fun to listen to and makes you want to dance. Rating: 9/10 Who Made It: Everyone! 679: The mom was right that the guy in the beginning wasn't as great. However, it was a good performance Rating: 7/10 Who Made It: Shannon, Briele, Amber, Joshua The Make-You-Believers: Jackie ended up fainting right before performing, but she wanted to perform anyway. Maybe she shouldn't have hugged Amy. Dustin forgot the lyrics. Mathenee was awesome. Jacquie kind of seemed like she was upstaging him. Rating: 6/10 Who Made It: Mathenee :) Those Girls and That Guy: Not bad, but it wasn't spectacular. Rating: 6/10 Who Made It: No one Hollywood 5: Love it, love it! Rating: 9.5/10 Who Made It: Everone! Area 451: Imani wanted to join them onstage, but it would be a trainwreck if she did. She does ultimately decide to do it. Bryce forgot the lyrics and overall it was bad Johnny kristi imani was really good though she actually made the performance improve... until she fainted. Can't believe Johnny tried to carry on with the song, that jerk. Rating: 6/10 Who Made It: Johnny MIT: I hate Richie. He's such a hypocrite, that little crap head. He is such a jerk. I could go on and on but some things I want to say about him are too inappropriate for me to say on this blog. Heejun was really good as was Jairon. Richie is not that good. Phillip was okay. Rating: 6/10 Who Made It: Everyone! 98 people are left now and they are in a final round of singing solo: Joshua Ledet: 8/10 Pretty good near the chorus. Colton Dixon: 7/10 Why is he here, though? Those judges forced him to audition. Biased much? Phillip Phillips: 6/10 Not a good song choice, but his voice is good. Jen Hirsh: 6.5/10 Not really my style, even though she got a standing ovation. Creighton Fraker: 8/10 Wow. Awesome. Shannon Magrane: 8/10 She's really good. I like her a lot. Reed Grimm: He decided to play the drums in his performance. Very smooth performance. 6/10 BTW: Do they keep singing the same songs? Come on, people! Be original! Skylar Laine: 5/10 Her voice sounds very immature, just being honest. How the hell could Steven call that the best performance he's seen all day? Rachelle Lamb: 6/10 "I think I just messed up." lol that was funny. Good voice though Adam Brock: 8/10 I love this guy's voice. He's great. But AGAIN with the damn Georgia song! That's the thrid time I heard them sing it. Soon they divided the singers into 4 rooms, 3 of these rooms went through to the next round, which will be in Vegas! Be sure to turn in! 06:46 pm - American Idol: Feb 9 2012 So... My computer went wonky last night and I lost everything I wrote about last night's episode of American Idol. However, I do recall a few important things. It's not so much about the singing, but more on the group night complications: 1. Symone is alive. Symone fell offstage because she fainted of low blood sugar and dehydration, but she turned out okay. I wonder if Nygel Lythgoe talked her out of eating dinner that night. 2. Richie (aka cowboy) is a jerk. That guy is doing such stupid stuff that his teammates clearly don't want to do and he's being completely two-faced. He acts nice to them but then says to the camera "We're gonna do this my way." :( 3. Amy is a real trooper. Amy was the first person we last on Wednesday who had the "Idol Bug". It has clearly spread around to other people and Amy isn't letting it get her down. She actually wanted to continue practicing when her perfectly healthy teammates wanted to go to bed. This convinced on of them to come back. :) So, the night's episode wasn't so much about the singing talent as it was about merging people into groups and the conflict that ensues. This is what makes for good reality tv, after all.
I just uploaded a new video on my YouTube channel. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdWHr89bFtw Current Mood: happy

12:09 am - New Blog Topics I've decided to stop writing rpf stories in my blog and review reality tv shows. It'll be easier, since I'm in college now, and I think it'll be more fun. I might revamp the blog's color scheme in the next couple of weeks, just to give it a fresh new look. Current Mood: nerdy

11:55 pm - Cosentino LOST!?!? How the hell did this happen? First of all, I like to say that, if it's possible, post this everywhere and anywhere you can. Even though the event described happened 5 months ago, this message really needs to get out because an injustice was done:
You all may know that I'm a big fan of a show called America's got Talent. Well, I also watch the Got Talent shows in the UK and Australia via YouTube. I can remember times when voters for America's got Talent and Britain's got Talent have dissapointed me, but I've never once gotten upset about who won Australia's got Talent... until this year.
The winner of this year's season was a 14-year-old kid by the name of Jack Vidgen. He's a singer and wowed the judges in his audition when he sang "I Have Nothing" by Whitney Houston. While I'll admit that Jack is talented, I don't believe that he deserved to win compared to all of the other talent in the competition.
In my opinion, I believe Jack should've gotten in 6th place out of the ten acts in the grand final. The act I believe deserved to win was magician/escape artist, Cosentino. He has a much wider range of talent than Jack and he will be able to be a lot more succesful than him as well.
At first, I had absolutely no idea how and/or why Australia allowed this kid to win over an exceptionally talented individual like him, especially in a country where there are little to no famous magicians. However, after doing a little research on the show and inputing my 6 years of reality tv knowledge, I composed a list of five possible reasons why Jack was declared the Australia's got Talent "winner":
1. Sony contract This is something I just recently found out. Apparently, in addition to the $250K, the winner gets a contract with Sony, which is a company that often signs record deals with singers. Can we say "singers' bias"?
2. The wrath of the teenage girls Since Scotty Mcreery's victory (and Pia Toscano's elimination) on American Idol, people have been accusing little girls in their early teens of slanting the votes in their favor by obsessive compulsive voting. With Jack looking interestingly similar to Justin Bieber, this is certainly a possibility.
3. Media Coverage When Jack Vidgen auditioned on AGT, he got so much media coverage and practically everyone in Australia knew who he was. All this buzz made people want to vote for him while he was on the show. With all the attention on Jack, Cosentino had to rely on word of mouth from people who watched the show or knew him from his escape at the Melbourne Aquarium the previous year to get more people to know about him.
4. Presumptive Winner Syndrome Many times, acts that do really well and are red hot favorites either get eliminated early or end up not winning because people don't vote for them. They assume that since they did so well, they'll get enough votes to skate by. If you want your favorite to win, you've got to vote for them no matter what. Here are a few examples of people/acts other than Cosentino who may have been victims of Presumptive Winner Syndrome:
*Acrodunk America's got Talent 2009 *Adam Lambert American Idol 2009 *Chris Daughtry American Idol 2006 *Fighting Gravity America's got Talent 2010 *Out of the Blue Britain's got Talent 2011 *Pia Toscano American Idol 2011 *Supreme Soul America's Best Dance Crew 2008 (Season 2) *Susan Boyle Britain's got Talent 2009 *Team iLuminate America's got Talent 2011
5. Bias from Jack's School I noticed in a video of one of Jack's interviews, that his classmates at an all boys school he went to saw his winning moment via live broadcast at his school. If his school knew about him being in the competition beforehand, it's likely that they voted for him as many times as they could, similar to how Kris Allen from American Idol received a large number of votes from his home state of Arkansas. The bias theory is put into play here because they all know him personally and probably felt obligated to vote for him.
Oh, and by the way, $250K is a lot of money. If Cosentino would've won, (which is what should've happened, of course) he could've used the money to start the magic school he wanted to open. Would Jack ever do something like that with his prize money? I don't think so.
So, that's basically my point of view on the results for Australia's got Talent 2011. I thought it was bad when Michael Grimm won America's Got Talent, but this is a lot worse. Let's hope something like this doesn't happen again (and with Melanie Amaro winning The X Factor in the US, things are looking better already.
One Last Thing: I'm not the only one who thinks Cosentino deserved to win. Check out this post made by vengeance7times on Tumblr: http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/cosentino+should+have+won

A total dreamer, you spend most of your time with your head in the clouds.
You often think of the future, and you are always working toward your ideal life.
Also nostalgic, you rarely forget a meaningful moment... even those from long ago.
